Catherine Butler is a current Graduate Performance Diploma student at Boston University and has her bachelor’s from Wayne State University in Instrumental Music Education and Performance and her master’s in Flute Performance from Boston University. She has previously studied with Sharon Sparrow, Laura Larson, and Holly Clemans and currently studies with the Boston Lyric Opera's Linda Toote.


Ms. Butler is working towards a freelancing career, and just recently spent the summer performing professionally with the Ohio Light Opera Orchestra. She is currently active in the Boston University Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and chamber groups and was the principal flutist in Wayne State University ensembles for the better part of five years. She also teaches privately at Expressions Music Academy and completed her student teaching at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's youth ensemble ARCO, Warren Woods Middle School, Pulaski Middle-Elementary School, and Edmonson Elementary School in Detroit.


Ms. Butler is the recipient of numerous talent-based scholarships at Boston University and the Robert F. Lawson Scholarship for the 2018-2019 school year based on her exceptional performances. She was the winner of the 2018-2019 Wayne State Concerto Competition and has performed with the International Symphony Orchestra. She has also toured Italy with the Wayne State Camerata and subbed in the Detroit Metropolitan Youth Orchestra as a mentor for younger students. She has performed four concerti with Wayne State's ensembles and continues to participate in enriching performance and teaching opportunities.
